Handover of Green Footprints

3 Dezember 2014, Time: 15:30, Room: Executive Secretary's office

In this year over 150,000 children in several European countries have been collecting Green Footprints by deliberately using their feet, a scooter or bike, the bus or train for their daily journeys. The Green Footprints will be handed over to the UN Climate Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres in Lima on December 3th. This way the children demonstrate the "big ones", what the "small ones" already do to protect the global climate!

The EU is the third of the world's largest rainforest destroyers

Despite stricter controls the logging increases in the eastern Amazon region again. But not only the agricultural industry there is to blame for the disappearance of the rainforest – also the customers as the EU and China play a significant part. This is the conclusion of a study by the Center for Global Development about which the magazine Nature reports. According to the scientists, even if the producing countries such as Brazil are still primarily responsible for the deforestation, on the second and third place they are followed by China and the EU. They import goods in a large scale whose production leads to deforestation in the respective areas. Including palm oil as a renewable resource to save mineral oil over here.
